Dipendra Singh Airee did not just win Nepal their final match at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. He carried the weight of a campaign on his shoulders, again and again, and ended it with an innings that will be replayed for years.
Against Scotland at Wankhede, Airee produced a chase-defining 50 not out off 23 balls, a knock built on ruthless intent and constant pressure. He faced only two dot balls, rotated strike relentlessly, and punished anything loose, turning a tense finish into a famous seven-wicket win.
After receiving the Player of the Match award, Airee dedicated the moment to the supporters who turned Mumbai into a sea of red and blue.
"First of all, I want to thank the fans who came from Nepal and supported us. That gives a lot of motivation," Airee said (translated from Nepali by captain Rohit Paudel).
"In the last World Cup, we didn't win a single match. So this win is very important for us… while chasing, a 23-ball 50 is very good… usually I try to rotate the strike. I do not want to play a lot of dot balls."
He also pointed to lessons from the high-pressure game against England as a turning point for the group, saying those experiences helped Nepal close out a chase like this.
A World Cup where Airee stood tallest
