Bhutan left-arm spinner Sonam Yeshey has become the first bowler to take eight wickets in a men’s T20 international, ripping through Myanmar with figures of 8/7 in Gelephu.
The 22-year-old produced a spell that rewrote the T20I record books in the third match of Myanmar’s tour of Bhutan, finishing with 8 for 7 in his four overs as Myanmar were bundled out for 45 in 9.2 overs. Six of Yeshey's wickets were caught while one was bowled and the other lbw.
Bhutan had earlier posted 127/9 in 20 overs, and the chase never got going under sustained pressure from Yeshey's left-arm spin, with Myanmar collapsing to an 82-run defeat.
Yeshey's eight-for pushed past the previous best in men's T20Is—seven wickets in an innings, achieved by Malaysia's Syazrul Idrus (7/8 vs China, 2023) and Bahrain's Ali Dawood (7/19 vs Bhutan, 2025).
Bhutan's first T20I came against Nepal at the 2019 South Asian Games. They are currently ranked 77th in the ICC Men's T20 rankings while Myanmar are 95th.
