Exciting start to the Core Camp as Nepal Red and Nepal Yellow register victories

The first day of the Core Camp, organised by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), saw thrilling cricket action at the Upper and Lower Mulpani Cricket Grounds on April 26. Nepal Red and Nepal Yellow were victorious on the first day.

At Upper Mulpani, Nepal Red produced a dominant performance against Nepal Blue. Invited to bat first, Nepal Red piled up a massive 347/5 in their 50 overs, powered by Bhim Sharki’s brilliant 126 off 104 balls, Shub Kansakar’s decent 73 and Aarif Sheikh's steady 53.

In response, Nepal Blue crumbled to 148 in just 31.1 overs. Pratish GC and Shahab Alam starred with the ball for Nepal Red, taking 3 wickets each. Nepal Red registered a commanding victory by 199 runs.

Meanwhile, at Lower Mulpani, Nepal Yellow edged past Nepal Green in a tightly contested match. Forced to bat first, Nepal Yellow were bowled out for 196, thanks to crucial contributions from Rupesh K Singh (57 off 61 balls) and Kushal Bhurtel (44 off 64 balls). Santosh Yadav and Sagar Dhakal claimed three wickets apiece for Nepal Green.

Chasing 197, Nepal Green fought hard but were bowled out for 179 in 43.2 overs, falling short by 17 runs. Kamal Singh Airee and Dipendra Singh Airee were the standout bowlers for Nepal Yellow, picking up three and two wickets, respectively.

New head coach Stuart Law was present in Mulpani to observe the match as he officially begins his tenure. In the 52-player Core Camp, the players have been divided into four teams, which will compete against each other in a series of matches. The purpose of the camp is to assess and groom players for future national duty, with Law closely observing the talent on display.
