Nepal announces historic first-ever entry into Australia’s Top End T20 Series

In a historic milestone for Nepali cricket, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has announced a 16-member squad for the country's first-ever appearance in Australia's prestigious Top End T20 Series.

The tournament, now in its fourth edition, will be held in Darwin from August 14 to 24 and will see Nepal compete alongside some of the strongest domestic and international sides in the format.

Rohit Kumar Paudel will captain the team, with dynamic all-rounder Dipendra Singh Airee, currently ranked second in the ICC T20I all-rounders' chart, serving as vice-captain.

The squad features a balanced mix of experience and young talent, including Aasif Sheikh, Sandeep Lamichhane, Kushal Bhurtel, Kushal Malla—making a comeback after missing recent tours—Gulshan Kumar Jha, Aarif Sheikh, Bhim Sharki, Rupesh Singh, Sompal Kami, Nandan Yadav, Karan KC, Rijan Dhakal, Lokesh Bam, and Lalit Narayan Rajbanshi.

The series will feature a record 11 teams, among them Pakistan Shaheens, Bangladesh 'A', the Chicago Kingsmen from the USA's Minor League Cricket, six Academy squads representing Big Bash League franchises, and the hosts NT Strike. Each team will play six league matches across Darwin’s premier venues including DXC Arena, TIO Stadium, Cazaly's Arena, Gardens Oval, and Freds Pass.

Nepal begins its campaign against NT Strike on August 15 at DXC Arena before taking on Bangladesh 'A' on August 16, Melbourne Stars Academy on August 18, Hobart Hurricanes Academy on August 19, Melbourne Renegades Academy on August 20, and finishing the league stage against Pakistan Shaheens on August 22.

This appearance is part of Nepal's broader strategy to prepare for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 Asia and East–Pacific Qualifiers, giving players the opportunity to test themselves against diverse opposition in challenging conditions.

For Nepal, the debut in the Top End T20 Series represents a significant step forward, offering both a platform to showcase talent on an international stage and a valuable opportunity to build momentum ahead of key global tournaments.
