Nepal book a spot in final of ACC U16 East Zone Cup with dominant win over Malaysia

Nepal secured a place in the final of the ACC Men’s U16 East Zone Cup with a dominant victory over Malaysia. The Nepalese side registered a comfortable 9-wicket victory in the semi-final at the Selangor Turf Club in Kuala Lumpur.

Chasing a small total of 91 runs, The young Nepalese side completed the target in just 11.4 overs, losing only one wicket. Opening batter Prashidda Jaisi was dismissed for 2 runs, but Parmimarjan Yadav’s explosive knock of 59 from 35 balls, which included 5 fours and 5 sixes, anchored the chase. Shiwansh Bajgain remained unbeaten on 23, as Nepal comfortably reached the target.

With this win, Nepal has now secured a spot in the final and will face the winner of the Hong Kong vs Singapore match.

Nepal booked a place in the semifinal as the table topper of Group A, having won against Singapore, Japan, Indonesia and Bhutan.

Earlier, Nepal’s bowlers put on a clinical performance to bundle out Malaysia for just 90 runs in 43.1 overs.

Choosing to bowl first, Nepal’s decision paid off early as they struck twice in the third over itself. The Malaysian top order struggled against the disciplined bowling attack, with wickets falling at regular intervals. Nepal reduced the hosts to  46/7 after 27 overs.

While Malaysia’s innings appeared to be crumbling, the 8th-wicket pair managed to stabilize the innings, adding 36 crucial runs to take the total beyond the 80-mark. Fathul Muin was the standout batter for Malaysia, top-scoring with 38 runs, while Deeaz Patro contributed 10. The rest of the Malaysian batters were unable to cross the double digit score.

The standout performer with the ball for Nepal was Abhay Yadav, who finished with a brilliant four-wicket haul (10-0-15-4). Shubham Khanal was equally impressive, with 3 wickets and a tight spell (10-4-12-3) that kept Malaysia under pressure throughout. Bipin Sharma and Sachin Bhatta also chipped in with a wicket each.
