Pakistan Shaheens survived a late scare to defeat Nepal by just one run in a thrilling encounter of the Top End T20 Series at Marrara Cricket Ground. The result sealed the Shaheens' place in the semifinals while leaving Nepal heartbroken after coming agonisingly close to a famous win.
Winning the toss and batting first, the Shaheens struggled for momentum but managed to post 144 for 9 in their 20 overs. Captain Irfan Khan anchored the innings superbly with an unbeaten 42 off 26 balls, while Abdul Samad added 26. Nepal's bowlers were impressive throughout, with Sompal Kami claiming 3 for 30 and Nandan Yadav finishing with 2 for 32.
In reply, Nepal’s chase was led by skipper Rohit Paudel, who compiled a composed 52 off 44 deliveries. He found support from Dipendra Singh Airee, who played a brilliant cameo of 41 from just 21 balls to keep Nepal in contention. With the match going down to the wire, Nepal needed two runs from the final ball, but Airee was run out attempting a desperate single, leaving his side stranded on 143 for 7.
