KATHMANDU: Bhutan's Ritshi Choden became the first woman cricketer to be dismissed timed out in international cricket during Bhutan Women’s ACC Women’s T20I Premier Cup match against Nepal Women on Thursday.
The incident took place at the start of Bhutan’s chase in Mantin. Nepal had set Bhutan a target of 114 runs.
Kabita Kunwar bowled Ngawang Choden with the first ball of the innings. Ritshi then came in at No. 3 but was not ready at the crease within the required time. Nepal appealed, and the umpires gave her out timed out.

Bhutan were reduced to 0/2 after one legal delivery. They later finished on 62/8 in 20 overs, losing the match by 51 runs.
The dismissal drew attention because timed out is one of cricket’s rarest modes of dismissal. Sri Lanka’s Angelo Mathews became the first batter to be dismissed timed out in international cricket during the 2023 ODI World Cup.
Ritshi is now the first woman cricketer to be dismissed in that manner in an international match.
The Cricket Association of Nepal later issued an apology, saying the dismissal was within the laws but did not reflect the spirit of cricket CAN wants to uphold.
