Nepal start ACC Men’s U16 East Zone Cup with comfortable win over Singapore

Defending champions Nepal U16 made a strong start to their ACC Men’s U16 East Zone Cup 2025 campaign with a convincing 6-wicket win over Singapore U16 at the YSD UKM Oval in Bangi on Saturday.

Chasing a modest target of 139, Nepal reached the finish line in 33.3 overs, losing just four wickets. The chase was anchored brilliantly by Prashiddha Jaishi, who remained unbeaten on 55 and was named Player of the Match for his composed knock. He found a reliable partner in Raunak Srivastav, who played a brisk innings of 40 to keep the scoreboard ticking.

Earlier in the chase, opener Suryanshu Koirala had to retire hurt after scoring 9 runs. Despite a spirited bowling performance from Singapore’s Akash Teja, who picked up three wickets, Nepal remained in control throughout the second innings.

Singapore, who opted to bat first, were bowled out for 138 in 36.1 overs. Skipper Riaan Naik led from the front with a solid 53, while Aahan Vuthandam chipped in with a quick 38. However, the rest of the batting lineup struggled against a disciplined Nepalese bowling attack.

Nepal’s captain Bipin Prasad Sharma was the standout with the ball, claiming four wickets. He was well supported by Sachin Bhatta, who grabbed three, while Shubham Khanal and Abhaya Yadav took one wicket apiece.

Nepal will take on Japan in their next group stage match on June 24.
