NPL Season 3 Auction Review: Prepared Franchises, Lucky Draw Drama and a Clear Bet on Youth

The NPL Season 3 auction felt sharper, more competitive and more professional than previous editions.

Franchises arrived with clearer plans, stronger player research and a better understanding of the roles they wanted to fill. The result was an auction that produced several surprises while keeping fans engaged from start to finish.

Category A was always expected to attract the most attention, with some of Nepal's most established cricketers available. Several players reached the maximum bidding limit and had to be decided through the lucky draw system, underlining how highly franchises valued experience and proven match-winning ability.

Category B became one of the most important stages of the auction. Players such as Dipak Bohora, Shubh Kansakar and Kishor Mahato attracted strong interest, reflecting the demand for quality fast bowlers and hard-hitting batters. Teams including Sudurpaschim Royals and Chitwan Rhinos appeared especially focused on strengthening their core squads.

Category C highlighted the growing depth of emerging talent in Nepal cricket. Out of 123 shortlisted players, 17 were signed. Sujan Thapaliya and Rit Gautam received the highest bids in the category at NPR 4.25 lakh each. Pokhara Avengers, Kathmandu Gurkhas and Chitwan Rhinos were among the teams active in securing promising young players who could offer flexibility across the season.

One of the biggest talking points was the lucky draw system. When multiple franchises reached the maximum bid for the same player, the draw ensured a fair outcome. Players including Aasif Sheikh, Arjun Gharti, Bibek Kumar Yadav, Rupesh Kumar Singh and Trit Raj Das were decided this way after attracting maximum bids.

Overall, the NPL Season 3 auction showed how much the league has matured. Franchises did not simply spend on established names; they also invested in young and emerging players. That balance between experience and potential could shape the quality of the upcoming season.
