The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has announced that Star Sports will come onboard as the television broadcaster for the upcoming second season of the Nepal Premier League (NPL), bringing the domestic franchise tournament to a global audience.
In a communication sent by CAN, the board informed bidders that the previously defined exclusive broadcasting rights on TV for the NPL have now been amended to non-exclusive broadcasting rights. This change follows Star Sports' decision to partner with CAN for live television coverage within Nepal and internationally.
"The Right Holder was initially to hold exclusive broadcasting rights on TV for the full duration of the league, including all live matches, highlights, and related content,” the letter stated. "However, with Star Sports joining as the official broadcaster, these rights have now been modified to non-exclusive."
CAN emphasized that Star Sports' involvement is expected to play a "vital role in the global growth and visibility of Nepali cricket." The partnership will ensure NPL matches reach wider audiences across South Asia and beyond.
However, due to clean-feed regulations in Nepal, no advertisements will be broadcast during the telecast on Star Sports.
The governing body has asked all existing bidders to revise and resubmit their proposals to the CAN office by 12:00 PM on Wednesday, reflecting the updated non-exclusive broadcast terms.
The Nepal Premier League's second season is scheduled to begin soon at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground, with several international stars already confirmed to participate.
