How we write cricket
The conventions that keep our coverage consistent — terminology, names, numbers and scores.
Scores & results
All out: show just the runs (no /10) — pair with an 'all out' label.
Otherwise show runs/wickets with overs in brackets.
Use the canonical result summary; never the match post title.
Use team abbreviations in pills, footers and result lines.
Names & teams
Full name in body copy; abbreviation in tables, pills and tight UI.
Match titles are the canonical teams, not slugs or post titles.
Use a player's full, canonical name on first reference.
Tournament names come from the canonical post, not the slug.
Numbers & format
Format is structure; recognition (e.g. List A) is separate.
'overs' in prose, 'ov' in compact UI.
Ordinals for match numbers and finishes.
Stats abbreviations, lowercase where conventional.
Tone
- Lead with the fact, then the context.
- Headings carry weight; body stays clean and scannable.
- No hype, no sensational framing — respect the game and the people in it.
