The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has officially approved the financial report for the second edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL), revealing a significant surplus and a strategic reinvestment into women’s cricket.
The decisions were finalized during a central committee meeting of the cricket governing body held on Monday. According to the approved financial statement, the second edition of the NPL generated a total gross revenue of NPR 473,600,559.06.
After accounting for tournament expenses totaling NPR 219,605,123.91, the gross income before revenue sharing stood at NPR 253,995,435.15. In a major boost for the participating clubs, CAN distributed 50 percent of this income—amounting to NPR 161,873,500.10—among the eight franchise teams. This leaves CAN with a net surplus of NPR 92,121,935.05 from the tournament.
Beyond the NPL finances, the board meeting took a landmark step for gender equity in the sport. Following ICC funding directives, CAN has decided to allocate USD 500,000 (approximately NPR 6.6 crore) specifically for the development of women's cricket in Nepal.
Other key decisions from the meeting include:
- Annual Calendar: Approval of CAN’s annual program and budget for the year 2026.
- Annual General Meeting (AGM): The AGM has been scheduled for Baisakh 27 and 28, 2083 (May 10-11, 2026) in Biratnagar, Koshi Province.
- Infrastructure: The board decided to request the Government of Nepal and the National Sports Council (NSC) to extend the lease for the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground and formally hand over the Lower Mulpani Cricket Ground to CAN for better management and development.
- District Elections: The tenure of 20 district associations whose terms had expired has been extended until the end of Jestha 2083 to facilitate upcoming elections.
